About

Hi, I'm Fernando —* a Portuguese chemical engineer turned data leader, now a Data Engineering Manager at Meta in London.

In 2021 I moved from Lisbon to London to join Meta where I led data engineering for App Ads before moving to Privacy in late 2024. Before that, I worked at Accenture and Siemens.

Outside of work, I spend a lot of time running an overengineered homelab where I tinker with AI infra, model inference, and local agents, among other things.

This blog is where I share what I learn — trade-offs, design decisions, and what I'm exploring next. I care a lot about open source and user privacy, and a lot of what I'll write here will come from that lens.

If you want to get in touch with me about something or just to say hi, you can reach me at blog [at] bartolo.eu or on LinkedIn.
